An old school that served as a significant center for science and culture was established in Baghdad by Caliph Al-Mustansir Billah Al-Abbasid in 1233. It is situated on Baghdad’s Rusafa side. Al-Mustansiriya was constructed on a 4836 square meter plot of land that overlooked the Tigris River’s shoreline close to the Nizamiyya school. The Al-Mustansiriya school clock, a peculiar and amazing clock that bears testament to the advancement of science among the Arabs in that age of time and announces prayer times throughout the day, was located beside a large fountain in the center of the school. The school has two stories and has been designed with 100 large and small rooms in addition to Diwans & halls . There were countless priceless and rare books in the library. It contained 450,000 copies and served as a student reference. For almost 200 years, the library has welcomed a large number of academics and lawyers who have profited from its wealth of knowledge. According to the genres, the caliph transmitted valuable books from many different fields of research and knowledge, with an estimated amount of 80,000 volumes.
